On March 11, the Doug Martin Trio performed at the Doors Open For Music at Southminster (DOFMS) Wednesday noon concert series at Southminster United Church In Ottawa South. Over 150 people came and thoroughly enjoyed our one hour set consisting of mostly originals with a couple of carefully selected jazz standards tossed into the mix.
The band had a great time too, with the venerable Tom Denison on acoustic bass and Yves Laroche who was delighted to play a 9-foot grand. Following the concert many members of the audience approached the stage and were very effusive in their praise. Many folks bought copies of the Odyssey CD and I left the concert hall with only one left. I was particularly pleased when two audience members on separate occasions came up and told me that they liked my original tunes better than the jazz standards.
Roland Graham, organizer and driving force behind the DOFMS series said “Come back in a year with a new project and we’ll do it again”.
Indeed I will.
